The Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) celebrated World Day for Cultural Diversity with a vibrant festival attended by ambassadors and diplomats from over six countries. The event, organised by the College of Language and Communication at the Smart Village branch, drew a large audience, including notable figures from Egypt and abroad, as well as several cultural and media organisations.
This year’s festival aimed to foster intercultural dialogue among youth. Students presented media and cultural showcases representing various countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, India, England, and France. The festival featured artistic performances and diverse culinary offerings, highlighting each country’s culture and providing insights into their traditions.
During the festival, two distinguished individuals were honoured for their significant contributions to promoting cultural dialogue and understanding. Mohamed Fahmy, Editor-in-Chief of The Egyptian Gazette, and Dr Azza Ahmed Heikal, former Vice President of the Academy for Media Affairs and current advisor to the Academy’s President, received accolades for their impactful work. Additionally, Dr. Salim Al-Talouli, President of the Arab Union of Palestinian Expressive Artists, was recognised for his efforts in cultural dialogue and his exemplary representation of the Palestinian cause.
This year’s festival aligns with the directives of Dr Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Academy, and the diligent efforts of the Faculty under the leadership of Dean Dr Hanan Youssef.
The event served as a practical application of the “Intercultural Communication” course, supervised by Ambassador Dr Youssef El-Sharqawy,
reinforcing the educational objectives of shaping students’ media and cultural competencies. The festival also saw the participation of Dr Dalia Osman, Head of the Media Department, and Dr Nashwa El-Yamani, Vice Dean of the Faculty.
