Minister of Tourism Ahmed Issa has been in Moscow to meet the big noises in tourism in a bid to attract more Russian tourists to Egypt.
The minister met with representatives of Biblio Globus, Fun & Sun, Intourist, Anex Tour, Coral Travel, TEZ Tour and Pegas, not to mention the Stelat.ru booking website and Red Wings Airlines, which is a leisure airline based in Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
“Egypt enjoys a rich tourism potential, and tour operations would benefit from the doubling of the number of domestic flights in Egypt that facilitates the movement of tourists and connect cities and various tourist destinations therein,” the minister told his audience.
The minister spoke of the great advances in Egypt’s infrastructure development in terms of transport, airports, new rail links and new airports, such as Sphinx International Airport in Giza.
Issa also referred to an opportunity for a new regional tourism product that brings together Egypt and Jordan.
“This provides an opportunity for tourists to visit the tourist and archaeological destinations in the Egyptian cities of Taba and Greater Cairo and the Jordanian cities of Petra and Aqaba,” he said.
Issa highlighted the efforts to improve the tourist experience in Egypt, especially at the archaeological sites of Luxor, Aswan and the Giza Pyramids.
The Minister said there was a 40% growth in the volume of incoming tourist traffic to Egypt during the period from January to July of this year compared to the same period last year.
During these meetings, the minister learned of the plans of tour operators, the volume of demand and the movement of their reservations to Egypt during the coming period.
He also listened to their opinions and proposals to increase business volume in Egypt and the challenges that they may face to increase the number of tourists coming to Egypt from Russia.
Issa’s visit to Moscow comes on the sidelines of the 29th Leisure Exhibition in Moscow, September 12-14.
