ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – Work has started to transfer artifacts to the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria which is set to be opened this year after renovation, said Head of the Museums Sector at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Moamen Othman.

In statements to MENA on Saturday, Othman added that the Greco-Roman Museum will contain about 20,000 artifacts, noting that 90 percent of the construction works of the museum’s renovation project have been finalized in accordance with international standards.

The museum represents a masterpiece of international architecture and will display rare artifacts including heads of Alexander the Great and statues of the Ptolemies, he said.

Built on 9,000 meters, the museum will showcase artifacts that document arts of the Greco-Roman era in Egypt since the fourth century BC until the Byzantine era (sixth century), Othman added.
