A virtual exhibition on heritage between Egypt and Italy was opened on Tuesday at the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo.

‘Virtual Heritage Experience – A Digital Bridge between Egypt and Italy’ is the result of co-operation between the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Italian Embassy in Cairo to support world cultural heritage and encourage learning about the heritage and culture of their countries.

Egyptian Museum director Ali Abdel Halim said the exhibition is an interactive practical application in 3D virtual reality on our common heritage through which the visitor can enjoy the city of Cairo, Pyramids of Giza and the Saladin Citadel, plus a virtual tour of Benevento and a collection of images of Cairo, Rome, Florence, Venice and Benevento.

The experience combines three different digitisation models; 360° digitization, 2D digital animation and 3D interactive virtual reality.

The opening ceremony was attended by Italian Ambassador in Cairo Michele Quaroni and Moamen Othman, head of Museums Sector at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The exhibition is being held on the museum’s second floor from 9am to 5pm and runs until March 9.
