Time magazine: Giza and Saqqara among world's greatest places 2023 1 - Egyptian Gazette

Among 50 tourist destinations in the world, the American news magazine Time advised readers to visit Giza and Saqqara.

“Choose your Egypt tour carefully: all visit Giza but few stop in Saqqara,” the magazine said, basing its judgment on the views of its international correspondents.

It highlighted the opening of Sphinx International Airport, 45 kilometres from the pyramids of Giza, last November and allowing guided visits to the commercial area and the lobby area of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

It also mentioned the museum halls that the visitor will enjoy when it opens including King Tut’s 5,000 treasures uncovered 100 years ago.

It reviewed some recent Egyptian-made archaeological discoveries in Saqqara, such as the large cache of mummified animals that include hundreds of artefacts, such as masks, statues and mummified cats, crocodiles, cobras and birds.

The 100-year magazine also suggested seeing the Waziry One, the 16-metre-long papyrus which was discovered by the Egyptian mission led by the Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary General Mostafa Waziry last May. It has recently been restored and now on display at the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo.

Time also recommended the readers to visit the 4,700-year-old Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, the earliest colossal stone building in the country which was recently reopened after extensive restoration.
