Mohamed Shelbaya, CEO of PepsiCo Egypt, presented the Green Star Award to the Lebanese film Costa Brava, during the closing ceremony of the fifth edition of El Gouna Film Festival.
The fifth edition of the festival comes with a special focus on “sustainability.” Accordingly, the Green Star Award was presented in partnership with “Recycle for Tomorrow” platform; which is the first award dedicated to films that contribute to raising awareness about environmental issues and wildlife while applying the sustainability concept.
On that occasion, Mr. Mohamed Shelbaya, CEO of PepsiCo Egypt, said: “I am thrilled to contribute in honoring young exceptional talents through presenting the Green Star Award for the best feature film raising awareness on environmental issues. Such films contribute to raising the society’s awareness on the sustainability concept, help citizens adopt eco-friendly practices and develop their responsibility towards the environment”.
Shelbaya affirmed: “This year, through our participation in the festival for the fourth time, we have been keen on highlighting the importance of recycling through various activation srelated to our“Recycle for Tomorrow” platform.Moreover, we participated in a panel where we discussed the importance of sustainability as part of our new strategy pep+, which includes three main pillars; Positive agriculture, Positive value chain and Positive choices. That’s why we took the initiative to sponsor the first award of its kind that discusses the environmental issues aiming to complement our awareness role, and confirm our belief in the importance of the film industry -especially young talents in raising society’s awareness of the most important topics and issues.”
It is worth mentioning that “Costa Brava,” directed by Monia Akl, received an incentive prize of $10,000 after fierce competition with other participating films. The film was chosen by the jury that consisted of Actress Arwa Gouda, Director Kevan Mashaikh and Journalist Rana Najjar.
