Maestro Mario Margiotta’s concert “Federico Fellini & Nino Rota” that was recently staged at the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo ushered in a series of cultural events ahead of a landmark Italian Film Festival scheduled for June 23 – July 7.
Margiotta’s concert which featured some famous piano pieces recalled the relation between renowned film director Fellini and prominent composer Rota through background stories, anecdotes and behind-the-scenes gossip that made their films and music groundbreaking in cinematography’s history.
The forthcoming Italian Film Festival will be organised through co-operation between the Italia Cultural Institute and the Zawya Cinema and Distribution. Pasolini’s Mamma Roma, Oedipus Rex, Accattone and The Gospel according to St. Matthew are scheduled for screening in the event.
A selection of contemporary films by both well-established and rising directors will also be screened. The selection includes A Chiara by Jonas Carpignano. Actress Swamy Rotolo who won best lead actress at the 43rd Cairo International Film Festival, is expected to be present at the event.
The festival will open with a concert by Maestro Colangeli and his company musicians on June 21.
