The Hanan Youssef Cultural Salon recentlyheld its 57th session, having dedicated discussions in the gathering for the critical role universities play in societal development and modernization.
The session, held under the auspices of the Arab Organization for Dialogue and International Cooperation, featured a distinguished panel of academics and media professionals from across the Arab world.
Dr Hanan Youssef, president of the Arab Organization for Dialogue, emphasized the salon’s commitment to tackling complex societal issues and providing practical solutions.
She highlighted the importance of universities as engines of economic, social, and cultural progress, beyond their traditional role as educational institutions.
Participants underscored the multifaceted responsibilities of universities, including education, research, and community engagement.
They discussed the crucial role of universities in equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective participation in the labour market, as well as their contribution to scientific research and innovation.
The salon also explored the importance of universities in fostering entrepreneurship, supporting local industries, and promoting cultural values.
Participants confirmed the need for universities to actively engage with their communities and form partnerships to enhance education, training, and the application of scientific research.
Several distinguished models of university education from Egypt; Algeria; Lebanon, and Iraq were showcased during the session.
Academic experts from these countries shared their experiences and insights into the best practices in higher education.
In closing, Dr Youssef announced the launch of the ‘I am an Ambassador’ initiative of the Arab Organization for Dialogue.
The initiative aims to promote a culture of dialogue and diversity among university students and encourage universities to actively participate in social responsibility and community development.
The salon concluded with a musical performance by budding artist and salon member, Nada El-Mansi. Her rendition of the songs Brick over Brick and The Greater Homeland was met with enthusiastic applause from the participants.
