The iconic Pyramids of Giza are shining brighter than ever, thanks to a pioneering project to upgrade their internal lighting systems, completed by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in partnership with the Spanish government.
Utilizing cutting-edge, environmentally-friendly LED technology, the lighting overhaul covers the interiors of Egypt’s three ancient pyramids – Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. The new system not only highlights the magnificent and intricate design of these world-renowned monuments but also ensures their ongoing preservation through the use of cool, artifact-safe lights.
Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sharif Fathy, emphasized that this initiative is part of the ministry’s broader efforts to enhance visitor experiences at major heritage sites and museums. “Our aim is to improve service quality and increase Egypt’s appeal, especially for cultural tourists from around the world,” Minister Fathy noted.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to protecting Egyptian civilization in line with international standards.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the project was carried out in close collaboration with a team of Spanish archaeologists and engineers, following detailed scientific and technical studies.
“The new lighting system is completely safe for the pyramids’ ancient fabric and will help ensure the longevity of these unique structures,” Dr. Khaled stated.
Beyond preservation, the innovative lighting offers visitors an unforgettable experience, revealing the beauty and precision of ancient Egyptian architecture and evoking the timeless spirit of these monuments.
Ashraf Mohi El Din, Director-General of Giza Antiquities, added that the project involved every passageway, burial chamber, and inner corridor of the three pyramids. “The result is a richer, more immersive visit—one that respects the site’s authenticity while enhancing its wonder,” he said.
