The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), one of the most anticipated cultural marvels of the twenty-first century, is scheduled to open on July 3.
Positioned against the backdrop of the Great Pyramids of Giza, this 117-acre archaeological gem will house the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts and is expected to stun the world with its grandeur.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi emphasized that the opening will be a dazzling international event. “This isn’t just an opening; it’s a historic moment that embodies Egypt’s remarkable legacy,” Fathi said in an interview with Extra News channel.
Funded through partnerships with sponsors rather than the state budget, the opening will be attended by elite visitors, world leaders, and cultural enthusiasts, making it a truly global occasion.
The GEM will feature treasures that include the complete collection of King Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time, and the Khufu Solar Boat in its own dedicated museum space.
The CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Ahmed Ghoneim, called the museum “Egypt’s gift to the world,” highlighting its significance as a modern wonder that blends ancient history with cutting-edge technology. Visitors will be treated to an immersive experience, from holographic projections to innovative display techniques, all carefully designed to honor the legacy of Egyptian civilization.
“The challenge isn’t in having the world’s greatest monuments—it is in how we present them,” Ghoneim remarked, praising the museum’s ability to breathe new life into its exhibits.
The GEM will also become a hub for education and research, hosting an annual conference for Egyptology specialists to further enhance its cultural significance.
Former Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziry, described the GEM as “not just an archaeological edifice, but an integrated cultural, scientific, and entertainment hub—one that rivals and surpasses even the world’s most renowned museums, such as the Louvre and the Metropolitan.”
“This is about more than a building; it’s about transforming Egypt’s tourism industry and showcasing our history in a way the world has never seen,” Waziry said on Al-Qahera News channel.
July 3 was chosen as the ideal date to highlight Egypt’s modern renaissance while boosting summer tourism. With the world’s eyes on Cairo, the opening promises to celebrate the timeless brilliance of ancient Egypt and its enduring inspiration to humanity.
In preparation for the influx of millions of visitors, Ghoneim added, Egypt has upgraded surrounding infrastructure, including roads, airports, and hotels.
“Preparations for this historic event are in full swing,” revealed Mohamed el-Saadi, the organizer of the opening ceremony. “We are sparing no effort to ensure this is an unforgettable moment for Egypt, one that will highlight the grandeur of our civilization to the watching world.”
