With the release of the latest movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, one cannot help comparing it to the previous movie, Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
Both movies were directed by George Miller.
In Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Miller makes a leap in using visual as well as practical effects.
The movie was filmed in real locations and the dangerous scenes were filmed like real.
The movie is also completely different in that it gives another narrative standpoint, as we see this world through the character of Furiosa(Anya Taylor-Joy) who was also in the previous movie (played by Charlize Theron). In this one, however, she is the main character.
Mad Max: Fury Road features a dystopian harsh world. In this new film, Miller explores this world further with its heroine, Furiosa, as we go through her own experience.
The film begins with Furiosa’s preparations to start her adventures. The first scenes presented a background about the character and her childhood where she went from freedom to captivity, giving time for the audience to know more about her and understand her motives.
Furiosa, a survivor of a decade of brutal captivity since she was 10 under the warlord Dementus, has learned to spend her time silently, waiting for the perfect moment to escape and take revenge.
With a burning desire for justice, she sets out on a perilous journey, determined to overcome all obstacles and keep her promise to avenge the murder of her mother.
Nevertheless, as she goes on her journey, Furiosa must confront the darkness within herself and decide if she can sustain the path of fury long enough to fulfil her bloody vendetta.
After going through a lot of training, the first chase scene comes unexpected and makes the audience anticipate.
In Mad Max: Fury Road, the director did not take the time to introduce the characters, but in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, he focuses on Furiosa and building the world around her.
This also applies to the Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), the evil person who wants to destroy everything.
Hemsworth played the character very well. Despite the strange nature of his character, he is able to show real depth through this strangeness.
He is not always this evil harsh person, but there are hard circumstances that turn him into the monster he is.
Anya Taylor-Joy also gives a stunning performance as Furiosa. Her role does not depend on dialogues, but through her eyes and reactions we can sense the pent-up anger inside her that is waiting for the right moment to explode.
She successfully delivers the many feelings inside her, including the desires, intentions and motives, to go on.
The action scenes in the movie are very interesting. The vehicles chasing scenes are very well made. Part of the film contains these chasings, which makes the audience on the edge of their seats.
Despite the presence of many special effects, the movie presents a rich visual entertainment.
The director takes us into a desolate, but artistically beautiful wasteland with a strong female heroine who fights for her rights with resilience in the face of diversity.
I think it was the best movie of the year and I believe Mel Gibson’s age would not have be a factor since furiousa aged about 20 yrs during this movie
“…resilience in the face of diversity.”
lol
I hope you meant “adversity”.
