As Egypt prepares for the much-anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilisation, the country has revealed a unique, art-inspired invitation for the inauguration event.

The invitation is designed as a commemorative piece, reflecting the spirit and enduring human values of ancient Egyptian civilisation.

Central to the invitation’s design is the iconic golden sarcophagus of King Tutankhamun, one of the museum’s most celebrated treasures. According to Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, the invitation was crafted entirely by Egyptian hands through the Konouz Egypt Replica Treasures, under the artistic supervision of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

“This invitation is more than just a pass to an event; it is a keepsake that encapsulates the beauty of the young king’s artifacts and marks a historic moment for generations to come,” Fathy said.

The invitation’s creation involved several meticulous stages, beginning with sculptors capturing the intricate hieroglyphics and decorations of the original sarcophagus. The process then moved through stages of replication, gilding, and coloring, before the interior was lined with luxurious velvet to complete the collectible piece.

Major General Hisham Shaarawy, Chairman of Konouz Egypt, emphasised that the invitation reflects the delicate artistry and deep cultural heritage of Egypt.

“It is a piece meant to be cherished and passed down, just as the museum itself will stand as a testament to the genius of ancient Egyptians,” he stated.
