The American Culture Centre (ACC) re-opened Monday after its closure since 2020 due to Covid-19.
Chargé d’Affaires John P. Desrocher said the centre has served Egyptians for 27 years, welcoming 60,000 visitors a year before the pandemic.
“We offer a variety of courses — information about studying in the US and cultural exchanges, skills building courses,” Ambassador Desrocher said during the re-opening ceremony.
“During the pandemic the ACC had to close for safety reasons, but we tried to turn a problem into an opportunity, so we boosted our digital services and memberships so we were able to reach every governorate in Egypt digitally, which we couldn’t do before,” the Ambassador added.
The ACC offers in-person and online programmes and educational opportunities to Egyptian audiences. It engages Egyptians and Americans in discussions on US policy, culture, society, and values.
The centre also offers weekly English Conversation Club, movie screenings and discussions and a library with science, history and literature sections.
Services and programmes are free of charge, and anyone who is 18 and older can become a member at the ACC.
