The 19th international conference on environmental sciences will begin at the University of Zagazig on Wednesday under the patronage of University President, Dr Khaled al-Darandali, and Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr Jihan Youssri.
Titled ‘Basic Sciences and their Applications for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development’, the conference is organised by the university’s College of Sciences.
A host of senior local environmental science professors will attend the conference, along with pharmaceutical industry leaders.
College of Sciences Dean and Conference Chairman, Dr Gamal Abdel Aziz Annan, said the conference would discuss 13 important topics over eight sessions.
These topics, he said, include the role of basic sciences in solving environmental problems, means of maximizing benefits from the green economy and green technologies.
He noted that the conference attendees would also discuss adaptation to climate change, means of reducing carbon emissions and ways of utilizing biotechnologies in the manufacture of environmentally-friendly medicines.
The conference will also discuss the promotion of renewable energy sources and innovating smart methods to reduce water pollution, the conference chairman said.
