Egyptian Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhy agreed on Tuesday with German Ambassador in Cairo Frank Hartmann and representatives of GIZ Egypt on holding a set of activities to raise climate awareness among youth in light of Egypt’s hosting of the UN COP27.
During their meeting, Sobhy said the Sports and Youth Ministry will cooperate with German universities in the fields of sports sciences, education, and qualifying persons with disabilities.
Meanwhile, Hartmann expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian ministry and coordination with German bodies to implement joint programs, pointing to the embassy’s activities that it is keen to implement in the field of climate and environmental awareness.
The meeting reviewed the ministry’s efforts, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry to prepare for the Conference of Youth (COY17), set to be held on the sidelines of the COP27 Conference, which aims to empower youth and bring their voices to the UNFCCC processes to shape intergovernmental climate change policies.
The two sides agreed on assessing a program, which will be implemented by the ministry in cooperation with the German embassy at the El Shalalat Youth Center in May to spread the environmental awareness to be generalized at all youth centers across the country.
