The largest textile factory in the world belonging to Misr Spinning and Weaving Directorate in el-Mahalla, Gharbia Governorate will open soon.
So far, the concrete shell of the factory has been completed on an area of 15 feddans (acres).
The total cost of construction and Swiss-made Rieter machinery is LE780 million.
The factory was due to start operations within the first six months of 2022, two years after the initial contract for the works was signed on 9 July 2020, a statement by the Ministry of Public Business Sector said.
Daily production is forecast at 30 tonnes.
The construction works and trial operation are scheduled to be completed in 2023, according to the statement.
The new factory is part of a broader plan already set into motion by the Egyptian government to upgrade the public sector spinning and weaving industry at a total cost of LE25 billion.
The plan, under which 23 state-owned textile companies have already been merged into eight, includes developing the infrastructure of the companies concerned and obtaining advanced new machines.
