SHARM EL SHEIKH – International media outlets on Tuesday highlighted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s participation in a simulation model of the UN Human Rights Council during the second session of the 4th edition of the World Youth Forum, which kicked off yesterday.
Arab media shed light on Egypt’s humanitarian efforts by hosting about six million refugees and asylum seekers fleeing regional conflicts, while most of the European countries refused to take refugees in, according to a report issued by the State Information Service (SIS).
Meanwhile, the European media highlighted President Sisi’s remarks about Egypt’s ongoing efforts to produce the first home-made electric vehicle in 2023.
In a videoconference speech for the forum, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry emphasized the urgent need to take decisive action avoid more dire impacts of climate change, Al-Ain Emirati newspaper reported.
“We’ve seen fires unprecedented and out of control, we’ve seen record levels of heat, we see the Antarctic, where just the other day, a massive ice sheet broke off,” Kerry said, adding that “the biggest challenge we all face right now is to get our systems, our government systems, the private sector joined with it, to actually move fast enough. And right now, we’re not. So I hope we can rely on all of you to bring the pressure to bear that is necessary.”
Meanwhile, Al-Ghad TV channel reported that the forum’s second day began with a session dubbed: “From Glasgow to Sharm El Sheikh: Combating Climate Change”, with the participation of President Sisi and senior world officials.
Addressing the session, Sisi revealed that “as of 2023, Egypt will start producing the first home-made electric vehicle,” Russia-run media outlets RT and Sputnik reported.
Extending her thanks to President Sisi for inviting her to the global event, UAE’s Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice President of the Arab Youth Center Shamma Al Mazrui said that “Egypt has a special position in the hearts of Emiratis.”
She recalled the words of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan about Egypt when he said, “Egypt’s renaissance is that of the entire Arab nation.”
