Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Thursday met with a senior delegation from Gilead Sciences Company to discuss co-operation to supply the latest medicines developed by the company to treat epidemics.
The minister hailed Gilead as one of the most important American firms for biotechnology and the discovery, development and commercialisation of new drugs.
The talks covered co-operation in benefiting from drugs developed by Gilead in 2022 to combat HIV, thus providing the best medical and preventive services, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
The minister and the Gilead delegation reviewed Egypt’s treatments strategies for certain cancers and hepatitis C, Abdel Ghaffar added.
The meeting also tackled boosting local production of medicines and training programmes for healthcare providers.
Abdel Ghaffar referred to the state’s keenness to apply the universal health insurance system across the nation as a national priority in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
Abdel Ghaffar mentioned proposals to increase investment and strengthen the partnership with private health sector to improve medical services.
The Gilead team lauded the 100 Million Healthy Lives initiative, which remarkably contributed to offering better services.
The company is keen to co-operate with Egypt to benefit from its expertise at t global level.
