Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday’s evening opened the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and UN Secretary General António Guterres, as well as a number of world leaders and public figures.
President Sisi’s participation in this global sportive event comes in response to an invitation from the Qatari emir, especially in light of the close ties between the two countries.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, speaking at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup, said the event gathered people of all nationalities and beliefs.
“From Qatar, from the Arab world, I welcome everyone to the World Cup 2022,” he said in a speech in a tent-shaped stadium. “How lovely it is that people can put aside what divides them to celebrate their diversity and what brings them together all at once.”
