Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the the World Youth Forum (WYF) that started on Monday is an ample opportunity for youths to bring forward numerous ideas for a more secure and healthier future.
Addressing the attendees, via video conference during the event’s inaugural session, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the WHO chief said youths capabilities, ideas and talents are essential to facing up to the various challenges, topped by climate change issues.
The majority of the world’s population is under the age of thirty, thus shaping the future lies in their hands, Ghebreyesus said.
He referred to the WHO setting up of the Youth Council to amplify youths’ voices and ensure their participation in shaping, as well as contributing to the organization’s vision and mission.
The WHO director general pointed out that the untoward impact of the coronavirus affected youths’ health, education and employment related-issues.
The year 2022 should be dedicated to the eradicatioon of the virus, with a view to pressing ahead with efforts of development and progress and realizing the objectives of sustainable delopment, he noted.
