Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Ali el Moselhi said on Sunday Egypt’s reserves of strategic commodities are safe and sufficient for several months.
He added that the country’s strategic wheat reserve is sufficient for 4.7 months while sugar stockpile is sufficient until April next year.
Moselhi gave the remarks while laying down the foundation stone of the second strategic warehouse in Luxor governorate.
As for cooking oil, he said its reserves are sufficient for 6.7 months, adding that the General Authority For Supply Commodities (GASC) bought 125,000 tons of oil through an international tender.
Egypt’s reserves of rice are sufficient for 3.3 months, he said, adding that the new season will start within two weeks.
He said 1.6 million feddans were cultivated with rice, noting that the ban on rice exports is still in place.
