Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Djibouti in 2025 marked a milestone for bilateral relations.
The visiting deputy prime minister made the remarks during an expanded meeting of the Egypt-Djibouti Business Council, that convened at the conclusion of the minister’s visit to the African country, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Industry and Transport Monday.
Wazir said his visit aims to follow up on the implementation of the outcome of the historic visit of President Sisi to Djibouti in April 2025.
He explained that his meetings in Djibouti emphasized significance of deepening economic and investment cooperation, in a way that serves mutual interests and supports sustainable development in both countries.
The minister noted that his visit falls within the framework of Egypt’s keenness on enhancing its pivotal role in the Horn of Africa, as Djibouti represents a key pillar, given its unique geographical location and its central part in the Red Sea security and the safety of international navigation.
Wazir indicated that President Sisi’s talks with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh in April, tackled all areas of existing and future collaboration in the various sectors, especially ports and free zones, energy, infrastructure and transport, trade and fisheries, in addition to health, sports and culture.
Egypt has recently witnessed the development of its infrastructure, through establishing modern road networks, upgrading seaports and building new ones, as well as linking them to dry ports, logistics zones and industrial areas to facilitate exports and imports, the minister added.
Egypt also saw an expansion of new and renewable energy projects to secure industrial needs with the highest efficiency, in addition to improving the business climate through issuing investment-supportive legislation, streamlining company establishment procedures and easing land allocation, Wazir said.
He also said the Egyptian State places great importance on the role of the private sector as a key partner in achieving sustainable development, inviting the Djiboutian side to enhance participation of Egyptian companies in investment projects in Djibouti, mainly in the fields of ports and logistics services, free zones, transport and infrastructure, along with energy and related industries.
Wazir reaffirmed Egypt’s full commitment to cementing relations with Djibouti, and to translating agreed directives into tangible concrete steps that reflect the depth of bilateral ties and serve the interests of both countries’ peoples.
