Egyptian Minister of Awqaf Mohmed Mokhtar Gomaa stressed that the war on extremism is not over yet.
During a meeting with his ministry’s senior officials on Saturday, Gomaa urged everyone to be ever more vigilant and play their full part in that war to take down any sleeper cells or latent clusters of terrorists and extremists.
“We must not allow these cells and groups to rebuild or reproduce themselves again, we must learn from the past,” the minister said according to MENA.
“We are fighting on two fronts, the first being to eradicate any terrorist cells or remnants of radicalism, while the second is to rebuild ourselves, especially by renewing the religious and cultural discourse and diligently working for improving the performance of imams and female preachers, he added.
Gomaa also highlighted a newly launched program dubbed, “The thinking imam,” which seeks to help imams and female preachers to be actively involved in the renewal process.
