Cairo- Vice Chairman of the Wafd Party and Senate Member, Khaled Qandil, asserted on Friday that the European Parliament’s recent statement on the situation in Egypt exceeded “legal limits, international norms and conventions, and violated the principles of the International Declaration of Human Rights”.
“We have received with great dissatisfaction the EP’s statement on the situation in Egypt,” Qandil added in statements to MENA.
The statement unacceptably interfered with the Egypt’s internal affairs, discarding the fact that it is a sovereign state that has the right to made its own independent decisions, “wishing no interference by whatsoever external party.”
“Accordingly, we express strong rejection and denunciation of this statement, which seems to be based on inaccurate information, reflecting incorrect understanding of events and developments in Egypt”.
Over the past few years, Egypt has experienced comprehensive developments, that includedbolstering economic and political stability, promoting human rights, and combating terrorism.
Qandil also stressed that Egypt is a key partner of the European Union in various areas, including counter-terrorism and illegal migration, as well as economic co-operation.
If there is any concern about certain developments in Egypt, it must be expressed directly and constructively through dialogue and co-operation between the parties concerned.
