Vietnamese president : We firmly believe in two-state solution 1 - Egyptian Gazette

President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Lương Cường affirmed his country’s firm and supportive stance toward the peace process in the Middle East saying Vietnam strongly believes in the two-state solution and supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty along the pre-1967 borders and with AL Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital in accordance with international legitimacy, relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions and the principles of international law.

Speaking before the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives Monday, in the presence of Secretary-General of the AL Ahmed Abul Gheit, the Vietnamese president said the pan-Arab body represents a common home for Arab countries and a symbol of solidarity, unity, and joint action toward a brighter future based on sustainable development and self-reliance, praising the League’s leading role in promoting stability, spreading a culture of peace and supporting the active presence of Arab states on the international stage.

“Our people have admired the ancient Arab civilization for generations, with its high cultural, spiritual, and human values. Arab literature and philosophy have profoundly influenced the hearts and minds of our children and youth, as symbols of intelligence, dignity, courage and the pursuit of justice and freedom, as these shared values form a strong foundation for enhancing cultural and civilizational cooperation between our two peoples,” said the Vietnamese president.

Cường said his visit to Egypt conveys a clear message of Vietnam’s aspiration and interest in opening a new chapter in its relations with Egypt and its Arab brothers – based on mutual respect, shared interests, and collective action toward a safer and more prosperous future.

The Vietnamese president said, the world today is facing unprecedented challenges that cast a shadow over global peace and security, although peace, cooperation and development remain the main goals and shared aspirations of the world’s peoples, regional conflicts, power struggles, strategic competition between major powers and the frequent use or threat of force in international relations have all escalated alarmingly.

“While traditional security tensions persist in many regions, new non-traditional threats have emerged that now endanger global stability, including climate change, water security, food security, cybersecurity, and others. Protectionist policies, trade wars, declining globalization and disruptions in supply chains due to geopolitical competition are directly affecting the interests of developing countries, including Vietnam and its Arab partners,” he added.

The Vietnamese president emphasized said the Socialist Republic of Vietnam believes that the responsibility of maintaining global peace and promoting multilateralism lies with all nations without exception. He stressed the importance of respecting the UN Charter, international law, and the shared principles adopted by the international community, as well as respecting the legitimate interests of medium and small states.

“In a world rapidly moving toward multipolarity, the voice and role of the Global South – including Vietnam and the Arab countries – are becoming increasingly significant,” he added.

Cường cited a quote from the historic Vietnamese leader President Ho Chi Minh, who said: “Solidarity is the source of great success.”

“From this standpoint, our strength lies in our unity. Therefore, Vietnam calls for strengthening solidarity and multilateralism, and contributing jointly to building a more just and balanced global economic and political system—one that is based on international law and serves the interests of all peoples,” he added.

Vietnam fully understands the true value of peace, pointing out that the spirit of tolerance and peace is deeply rooted in the consciousness of the Vietnamese people, said the president.

“Our relationships with a number of partners – who were adversaries in the past – reflect the power of dialogue, reconciliation, and the spirit of moving beyond the past toward the future. These are the values that form the foundation for peaceful coexistence among nations and peoples,” Cường added.

He concluded by saying that, based on these principles, Vietnam is deeply concerned about the continued use of force in various parts of the Middle East, that has led to prolonged conflicts and worsening humanitarian crises.

The Vietnamese president called on all concerned parties to adopt a path of dialogue and work toward finding peaceful and sustainable solutions to conflicts in this vital region – solutions based on international law, the UN Charter and mutual respect.
