Press authority mourns death of veteran journalist Rezk

The National Press Authority (NBA), chaired by AbdelSadek El-Shorbagy, mourned veteran Journalist Yasser Rizk who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 57 years, after a sudden heart attack.

 

The NPA stated that Rezk had a rich journalistic career and was one of the top journalists of his generation. He held various posts until he became board chairman of Akhbar el-Youm press foundation in 2014 until 2020.

 

The NBA chairman offered condolences to family of the deceased, Akhbar el-Youm Foundation, and all Egyptian journalists.

 

Born in 1965, Rezk graduated at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University, in 1986. He spent most of his career working for Akhbar el-Youm.

 

In 2005, he was appointed as editor-in-chief of the State Radio and Television Magazine as well, and after six years in the post, he returned to Akhbar el-Youm as chief editor of the daily issue.

 

Rezk was also editor-in-chief of the private daily al-Masry al-Youm in August, 2012, for about a year and few months. Then he returned back to Akhbar el-Youm in 2014 as board chairman.

 

Just before his death, Rezk published his latest book “Years of Khamatsein: the Fifty Years… Between January of Anger and June of Salvation”.

Details about the funeral should be announced later today.
