RAMALLAH – US State Secretary Antony Blinken appreciated Egypt’s important role in the Middle East and its efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the region.
During a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Israel in Negev, on Monday Blinken said Washington will continue to support and promote ties with Israel and the Middle East allies.
He said that his country stands with its allies against violence and wants to achieve balance in the region in order to confront security challenges and threats, including Iran and its allies in the region.
He said years ago, it was impossible to convene together, but today, it became possible calling on the whole world to live in peace and security and work on promoting ties between Israel and allies in the region through normalization.
He pointed out that Israel and the UAE will have the possibility of promoting interfaith dialogue and with the participation of other countries, adding that the countries which have diplomatic ties with Israel could help in solving the Palestinian issue.
Blinken said his country is committed to providing freedom, security and dignity equally between Palestinians and Israelis.
He pointed out to the Camp David agreement was signed 43 years ago between late Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar el-Sadat and former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, noting that “We are now have the opportunity to attain peace, which was impossible in the past.”
Blinken, meanwhile, lauded the political leaderships for their ability in overcoming the barriers before establishing ties between the countries.
