Updated: Sisi attends seminar titled “International Responsibility in the Reconstruction of Post-Conflict Areas”

At the beginning of the session, held as part of activities of the fourth edition of the World Youth Forum in Sharm el-Sheikh, a documentary was screened to highlight sufferings of millions of refugees and displaced people in areas hit by conflicts worldwide and the importance of kick-starting sustainable reconstruction works.

The documentary pointed out to losses world countries have sustained due to Covid-19 pandemic, whether human losses or economic, health or political losses.

The Egyptian state underlined the necessity of reconstruction processes in an humanitarian prospective and as part and parcel of its national security, according to it.

Head of UNRWA Representative Office in Cairo Sahar al Jobury thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for the big support he offers to the agency.

Jobury said President Sisi is the first Egyptian leader to urge the international community to finance the agency in his address to the UN General Assembly.

She commended the Egyptian role in supporting UNRWA and defending it at all international forums, praising an Egyptian initiative for reconstructing the Gaza Strip and several parts of the Palestinian lands.

Director of Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) Ahmed Abdel Latif asserted that Egypt has played a leading role in re-directing the international work system to prioritize reconstruction.

Egypt is now chairing a UN committee for peacebuilding, according to him.

At the African level, Egypt launched a Cairo-based reconstruction center for the African Union, which will contribute to exchanging experiences and building capabilities, said Abdel Latif.

The deputy head of the UN office for supporting and building peace said the youth’s engagement with decisionmakers is very important in order to achieve peace worldwide.

She added youth are the leaders of tomorrow and can contribute to the building process through volunteering.

She underscored the importance of dealing with post-conflict areas to achieve sustainable development and stability.

It is necessary to enhance the role of youth and engage them in entrepreneurship and the education and training opportunities, in addition to sustainability of peace in the future, according to her.
