Egypt welcomed the adoption of the resolution it submitted within the framework of the 3rd Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, which was approved by an overwhelming majority, with 164 countries supporting it. The resolution was presented by Egypt on behalf of the Islamic Group.
In a press release on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates said that this broad support reflects the international community’s commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
Egypt asserted that the resolution clearly reinforces the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
Egypt reiterated its firm commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and continuing cooperation with sisterly countries and international partners to achieve a comprehensive settlement that guarantees the Palestinians’ aspirations for freedom and independence.
Egypt also stressed that it will continue working with regional and international partners to ensure the implementation of the US President Donald Trump peace plan in a way that serves the goal of achieving security and stability, while opening a real political horizon for the Palestinian people.
