Egypt was hailed Thursday for efforts over recent years for women’s empowerment.
Susanne Mikhail, Regional Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for the Arab States praised the efforts made by Egypt made in the last few years to empower women.
Egypt took serious steps over the past few years for women’s empowerment, Mikhail said during a meeting with chairman of the National Council for Women, Maya Morsi. Mikhail also spoke highly of cooperation between the NCW and the UN.
Morsi, for her part, said the achievements made by women in the past period have had the firm backing from the Egyptian leadership. The NCW does its best to empower women in all domains, she said.
“This comes in line with the National Strategy for Women Empowerment 2030,” she added, noting that the strategy had been approved by President Abdel Fattah el Sisi earlier.
However, creating opportunities for women in the labour market today is the greatest challenge for the NCW, she said.
