The Social Development Commission of the United Nations is to recognise the last three meetings of Egypt’s World Youth Forum (WYF) as an international platform highlighting the issues of world youth.
The decision was proposed by Cape Verde, Kazakhstan, Portugal, and Senegal under Egyptian sponsorship.
Egypt’s Permanent Envoy to the UN Ambassador Mohamed Idris said the issues of youth are a top priority on the UN agenda.
The latest move by the UN Social Development Commission focuses minds on Egypt’s youth empowerment efforts, Idriss added.
“This move also sends a message of appreciation for the contributions the past three editions of the WYF made in highlighting the issues of youth and their role in fulfilling aspirations within the sustainable development agenda for the year 2030,” Idriss said.
The first edition of the WYF took place in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in 2018 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah el Sisi.
The last edition of the forum was held in 2019 in Sharm el-Sheikh as well, bringing together 7,000 young people from all continents.
Forum participants met in workshops and activities to exchange views, experiences and aspirations, turning Egypt into a meeting point for the next generation of world leaders.
