The coming of the Holy Family to Egypt is commemorated on June 1, which this year will be marked by the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, downtown Cairo, and the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo with two archaeological exhibitions.
Under the title ‘From Egypt, Safety and Blessings to Her’, the exhibitions will be open on June 2 and will run for one month.
Egyptian Museum director Ali Abdel Halim said the exhibition showcases eight artefacts, the most prominent of which is a triptych depicting the Virgin and Child in the middle panel.
“Four glass negatives showing some artefacts, the most important of which is a mural from Bawit, an archaeological site located 80 kilometres north of Asiout,” he said.
Blessed Egypt for Development and Revival of Heritage, an NGO registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, has provided virtual reality and interactive technology for this special exhibition.
Coptic Museum director Jihan Atef said the exhibition includes manuscript, and icons and a chalice holder with the Madonna and Child painted on the base.
“On display is also an icon showing the Holy Family coming into Egypt, and a manuscript in Arabic that contains Easter prayers and a manuscript containing an account of the miracles of Christ.
