A strategy has been drawn up to serve the goals of sustainable development in the governorate of Alexandria and link it with all Egyptian governorates, Transport Minister Kamel Al Wazir said on Monday.

During the inauguration of Al Tameer Axis in Alexandria Monday in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the minister said the Mediterranean city has the biggest commercial port in Egypt and more than 50 percent of the foreign trade movement, a matter that caused many complicated traffic challenges as a result of the lack traffic outlets across the city.

He said the ministry has drawn up comprehensive plans depending on the development of axis, roads and bridges as well as railway and maritime movements.

Wazir pointed out to the expansion of the Cairo-Alexandria road at a length of 220 kilometers and establishment of bridges to facilitate traffic movement and reduce number of road accidents.

Minister Wazir said that Noubaria axis was established at a length of 207 kilometers to serve the major urban and economic growth near Alexandria, the Northern Coast and the New Delta.

He said the eastern Omar Soliman axis was established at a length of 25 kilometers while western one, which includes six lanes, was established at the length of 20 kilometers, to meet Al Noubaria axis with the aim of facilitating the movement of goods .

The first phase of Al Mahmoudia axis was established the length of 22 kilometers, said Wazir, pointing out three other axes will be established to serve the Mediterranean city.
