Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir discussed on Tuesday with Executive Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Junichi Yamada progress made so far in implementing joint projects and the future of bilateral cooperation in the transport domain.
The two sides discussed the first phase of Cairo Metro Line No.4 Project, which is currently under construction, and will connect Cairo’s Fustat area and Giza’s Sixth of October city.
They discussed a feasibility study on extending the first phase’s route by a total length of 4.5 km south of the Sixth of October City in order to serve this densely-populated area.
As for the second phase of the project, it will extend from Cairo’s Fustat area to the combined transportation center, passing through Nasr City and New Cairo.
The third phase will extend from the combined transportation center station to the New Administrative Capital.
The two sides agreed on starting an economic feasibility studies in this regard in April. It will be completed by the end of the current year.
The two sides will cooperate in implementing the third phase of the project that includes the localization of the manufacture of mobile units and electro-mechanical systems in Egypt via establishing factories for the Japanese side in Egypt.
