Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir Monday inspected the implementation rate of stations and route of the second line of Egypt’s high-speed electric rail network.
The minister also inspected a number of projects carried out by the Ministry of Transport, within the framework of ongoing follow up on services and development projects carried out in Upper Egypt.
The minister was accompanied by Luxor Governor Abdel Mottaleb Emara, Qena Governor Khaled Mahmoud, Sohag Governor Abdel Fattah Serag, Minya Governor Emad Kdawany, Deputy Minister for Land Transport Maged Abdel Hamid and other officials.
During the tour, Wazir reviewed progress achieved in the second line of the high-speed electric railway network (October – Aswan – Abu Simbel), which extends for 1,100 kilometers.
He inspected the 200-kilometer section from Luxor to Sohag, passing through a number of stations, including Luxor, Qus, New Qena, Deshna, Nag Hammadi, Farshout, Abydos, Sohag, Juhayna, Tahta, El-Ghanaim, Assiut, Minya and Beni Suef/Fayoum.
The stations are designed to serve local residents, airports, new urban communities, industrial zones and agricultural areas, and to enhance connectivity between Nile Valley development axes and desert highways.
Several stations are strategically located near major roads, airports and industrial facilities, including the aluminium complex in Nag Hammadi.
Wazir reviewed the deadline for finalizing the project, passenger circulation plans inside stations from main entrances to ticket halls and platforms, and the investment plans for the commercial development of each station.
