Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir discussed with a delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti the executive position of a number of ongoing projects implemented in cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting also tackled prospects of future cooperation in the various transportation sectors.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister hailed the level of cooperation between the two sides in implementing several projects, which serve millions of passengers daily.
The two sides further discussed the latest developments related to financing several projects, including the 1.128 billion euro agreement to support investments in the rehabilitation and expansion of metro and tram systems in Alexandria.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in several railway projects, including the development of signaling systems on the Tanta/ Mansoura /Damietta line, as well as financing a number of metro projects.
The transport minister, meanwhile, voiced keenness on further enhancing cooperation with the EIB.
For her part, Vigliotti said that the EIB is keen on promoting cooperation with Egypt in this vital sector, she added, praising the level of cooperation with the Transport Ministry in implementing several projects.
Hailing mega projects which are currently being implementing in Egypt in the various spheres, Vigliotti also said the transport sector is witnessing unprecedent development during the era of President Sisi.
The EIB stands fully ready to increase joint cooperation in the various transportation spheres, especially the railway, underground metro and river transport along with the sustainable green transport projects, she added.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold intensive meetings to draw up a roadmap covering all aspects of future cooperation in line of the priorities set by the Transport Ministry.
