CAIRO – Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir hailed as fruitful co-operation with the European Investment Bank (EIB), especially in implementing several projects including the Cairo Metro Line 3 (phase 3) project along with the development project of the second and third lines of Cairo Metro.
The EIB also financed the rehabilitation and extension of the existing 13.8 km-long El-Raml tram in Alexandria and a project to convert Alexandria’s Abu Qir railway into an underground metro, added the minister during his meeting Monday with an EIB delegation led by Director Operations in Neighbouring Countries Flavia Palanza.
The meeting was held to follow up on the progress made so far in the projects that are being implemented between the two sides.
The minister also voiced keenness on further enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the EIB, especially that the Transport Ministry has several projects in the various spheres.
Palanza, for her part, hailed co-operation with the Transport Ministry in implementing several projects, especially that the EIB attaches special importance to supporting the transport sector.
The EIB also gives prior attention to supporting digital transformation projects, she further said.
A high-level EIB delegation will attend the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC, which will be held in Sharm el Sheikh next November, she added.
