Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir Thursday attended the signing ceremony of a contract with MEDLOG MSC company that won an international tender of the project to finance, design, develop, operate and maintain a dry port and logistic center in the 10th of Ramadan city.
A 250-feddan land plot in the 10th of Ramadan city is allocated for the setting up the project; 130 feddans dedicated for the dry port and 120 feddans for the logistic center.
Minister Wazir asserted the significance of the project which would contribute to enhancing the trade movement through reducing piling of commodities and containers at maritime ports, improving logistic services, cutting down the high cost of commodities transport, alongside speeding up the customs clearance procedures.
The project seeks to reduce accidents taking place at the national networks of roads and cities, along with creating job opportunities, the minister added.
The 30-year contract for the development and operation of 10th of Ramadan Dry Port and Logistics Center project comes in context of partnership between the public and private sector, with the aim of handling 400,000 containers annually at a total investment cost of dollars 100 million.
MEDLOG is the logistics arm of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s second largest container shipping line.
The Robeiky – 10th of Ramadan – Belbeis Railway Line, which is partially funded by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will connect the Dry Port and Logistics Centre to the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) network.
Meanwhile, the minster attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment, management and operation of Borg Al Arab dry port.
The deal was signed between General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and Ocean Express Shipping to set up the project on an area of 120 feddans.
