Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity launched a workshop on Sunday to improve the efficiency of workers in foster care institutions in the directorates of social solidarity in Port Said, Ismailia and Damietta.
The workshop was implemented in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and in co-operation with the UNICEF Child Protection Project.
The move is part of a series of workshops and training programmes by the ministry in co-operation with civil society institutions to raise the efficiency of employees in these institutions.
Every child has the right to access vital social services and fair justice systems, according to the official site of the UNICEF.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity attaches great importance to orphan children, who need more social care, Minister Nevine el-Qabbag said.
The step is aimed to provide equal opportunities for these groups, develop their capabilities and ensure their access to technology to achieve their best interest and qualify them for the labour market, el-Qabbag said in a statement .
She said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attaches great importance to the development of social welfare institutions across the country, whether in terms of infrastructure and institutional development, or improving follow-up systems and training human resources.
She issued directives for taking comprehensive care of orphan children, in terms of education, psychology and health, to help enhance their capabilities and integrate them in general life.
The minister said that the total number of foster families reached more than 14,000, taking care of 14,300 children.
The governorates that have been covered by training so far is 14 governorates, including Alexandria, North Sinai, South Sinai, New Valley, Marsa Matrouh, the Red Sea, Aswan and Qena, the ministry said.
