Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir said Sunday that Cairo seeks to increase its exports to Africa through a wide strategy to develop exports in way compatible with its productive capacity.

In statements to MENA correspondent in Algiers, the minister said that Egypt was among the first countries that signed the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and has already implemented a trade deal with Ghana.

Samir said he attended on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi the 17th extraordinary summit of the African Union about industrialization and economic diversity which wrapped up proceedings on Friday in Niamey, the capital of Niger.

He said the summit participants highlighted the resources the African continent enjoys in various domains especially natural resources as well as metals and energy.

Samir added the participants also stressed the importance of activating AfCFTA which, he said, would increase intra-trade, which currently stands 15 percent, to higher levels in light of the content’s rich resources and economic projects.
