Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir held a set of intensified one-on-one, multilateral and business meetings on the sidelines of his participation in the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which runs between June 14-17.

The minister met with Sergey Dankvert, the Head of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, and held key talks on the registration procedures of some Egyptian and Russian firms in order to enhance trade exchange in agricultural products, meat and dairy products, according to a statement issued by the Trade and Industry Ministry on Saturday.

During a meeting with Trade Minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrey Slepnev, Samir discussed the updates of negotiations on the free trade agreement between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which comprises Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia  and Kyrgyzstan, the statement said.

The underway negotiations with the EAEU seek reaching a deal that caters to the interests of both sides and enhances the flow of trade exchange between Egypt and countries of the Eurasian economic bloc.

Minister Samir took part in the inaugural session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is one of the world’s key business events that has been held annually since 1997.

The Forum has cemented its status as a leading international event focusing on key issues on the global economic agenda. It provides a platform for participants to exchange best practices and expertise in the interests of sustainable development.
