Sisi, Blinken discuss efforts to reach ceasefire
All parties urged to uphold language of peace, diplomacy
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Tuesday US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his accompanying delegation. Both sides underscored the strong strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and expressed commitment to advancing joint efforts to restore security and stability in the region.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty, General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel, and US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg.
Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy said the meeting reviewed the ongoing Egyptian-American-Qatari mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of detainees.
President Sisi and Secretary Blinkenexchanged views on the outcomes of last week’s negotiations in Doha and explored ways to achieve progress in the ongoing talks in Cairo. Secretary Blinken briefed President Sisi on the results of his visit to Israel, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to continue efforts toward de-escalating the situation and reaching an agreement. He expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s constructive role in this regard.
President Sisi emphasised that the time had come to end the ongoing war, urging all parties to heed the voices of reason and upholdthe language of peace and diplomacy. He warned against the grave dangers of the conflict expanding regionally, with potentially unimaginable consequences.
The President stressed that sparing the blood of the peoples should be the major driving force for all parties and that a ceasefire in Gaza must be the beginning of broader international recognition of an independent Palestinian State and the enforcement of the two-state solution, given the fact that this is the essential guarantor for stability in the region.
