The role of the World Bank’s country office in strengthening bilateral co-operation and continuous communication with various government entities to advance areas of co-operation is crucial to the promotion of national priorities to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This statement by Minister of International Co-operation and Rania el-Mashaat, who is also WB Governor of Egypt, came during the launch of the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) between Egypt and the World Bank on Monday.
The minister thanked the WB team for their efforts over the past period in preparing the partnership in co-operation with the Ministry of International Co-operation team and technical teams from the various relevant entities, whether from the government or the private sector.
The CPF was launched in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, who emphasised the strength of relations between Egypt and the World Bank.
The ceremony was attended by a group of ministers, officials of the private sector, civil society, and members of the House of Deputies and Senate.
The new partnership between Egypt and the bank for the period 2023-2027 supports future joint co-operation programmes and projects.
The new partnership was approved on March 21, 2023, by the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group, to support efforts for sustainable growth, based on national priorities in various sectors and the development vision over the next five years.
The new partnership of the WB is consistent with Egypt’s strategy for sustainable development, Egypt’s Vision 2030, and the Egypt National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) 2050.
The partnership will support Egypt in devising sustainable solutions to address development challenges in various sectors, foremost among which are the eradication of poverty, the promotion of comprehensive prosperity for all segments of society, and the creation of conditions conducive to achieving comprehensive, sustainable and resilient green development.
The new CPF places emphasis on the citizen through three main objectives, including more and better private sector jobs, enhanced human capital outcomes and improved resilience to shocks through strengthened macroeconomic management, and climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
In a related development, Minister Mashat held talks yesterday with Ferid Belhaj, Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank.
The talks came on the sidelines of the launching ceremony of the Egypt-WB Strategic Partnership Framework 2023-2027.
The minister confirmed the depth of relations binding Egypt and the WB. She said that the Egyptian government is eager to expand co-operation to new highs to achieve achieving sustainable development goals.
