CAIRO – UN Under-Secretary-General and the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Vera Songwe said that she felt genuine political determination to empower women and girls on all fronts during her visit to the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW).
Songwe was received by NCW President Maya Morsi and got acquainted with Egypt’s efforts in women empowerment.
She said campaigns were launched in several African countries to empower girls through promoting their learning skills and participation in the society.
In turn, Morsi welcomed the UN official during her visit to Egypt and said the NCW is the national mechanism concerned with women affairs and it has 27 branches nationwide.
Over the past seven years, big developments were introduced to women file in view of plans, strategies, legislation, laws and policies, according to Morsi.
