CAIRO – Egyptian Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilam said eight stations for drinking ground water were established in South Sudan within the framework the Egypt’s efforts to support riparian countries.
In a statement on Monday, he highlighted the fruitful co-operation between the two countries in the water resources domain.
He referred to Egypt’s collaboration with South Sudan to establish 20 solar-powered stations for potable underground water that serve about 100,000 citizens.
He added that the ministry established risk reduction projects as well as dams to benefit from rainfall in drought season.
On Saturday, a grand popular ceremony was held to mark the launch of three potable underground water stations in South Sudan.
During the ceremony, South Sudanese Vice President for Economic Affairs James Wani Igga lauded the efforts exerted by Egypt to serve South Sudanese people, thanking President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Egyptian people.
