In co-operation with the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Stockholm Centre for Sustainable Finance, and the Stockholm School of Economics, the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo organised and hosted a training programme on ‘Sustainable Green Finance’ on October 7-8.
The training was carried out in co-ordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment.
Officials and representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning and Economic Development attended the training sessions to explore theories related to the role of finance for sustainable development, green transitions and economic growth, which will enable participants to better engage with the finance aspects in various stages of the public policy cycle.
Swedish Ambassador to Egypt Håkan Emsgård opened the training programme.
“Climate finance is a key for implementing climate action and ambition,” the ambassador said.
“These issues are likely to play a central role at the upcoming COP27 climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh next month.
“I hope these two-day programme on Sustainable and Green Finance will explore several options to mobilise financing for effective investments in line with the Paris Agreement,” Emsgård added.
The training addressed the latest developments related to sustainable and green finance and covered topics including financing the sustainable development goals, using new financial instruments, mobilising private sector finance for the sustainable development goals, and implementing financing from high-income countries towards developing countries most affected by climate change.
