The Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade announced that more than 153,000 subsidy ration cards were cancelled this year in accordance with the new conditions for subsidy eligibility.
In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry said that the total number of beneficiaries from the ration cards systems amounted out 62,762,908 with a total value of EGP 36 billion.
In a previous statement, the Ministry said it has notified citizens who will be removed from the subsidy system and informed them of the reasons for their removal. The persons concerned can appeal the decision, it added, noting that if they failed to do so, the decision shall be considered valid.
The conditions for removal from the ration cards system included the card holder with a high salary or owner of a modern car. Conditions also covered death cases, travelling abroad for more than three successive years, among others.
