Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi said Monday that the ministry aims to reach up to 4 million tons of local wheat supplies from this harvest season which starts in mid April, noting that the total supplies of past season hit 4.2 million tons.
In statements on the fringe of opening an excellence center in Cairo Chamber of Commerce, Moselhi said that the upcoming meeting of the cabinet will declare extra incentives to farmers of wheat.
He also said the Ministry has launched a program for supporting food security, which is funded by the World Bank, and has purchased 320,000 tons of imported wheat till Saturday, January 14. A bidding for wheat purchases will be announced every week.
Asked on the bidding announced by General Authority For Supply Commodities (GASC) for corn purchases, the minister said that the ministry acted to extract bran from corn milling to be used as fodders, in view of the high prices of animal feeds, adding that the purchase of corn and providing it at public bidding will help in reaching a just price for corn and wheat bran as well.
