Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi confirmed that all circumstances surrounding the accident of the Panamanian ship Ever Given will be investigated by the Suez Canal Authority, pointing out that the matter was left to the authority as it is a technical and legal matter.
The president added that the ebb and flow was a decisive factor in the success of the efforts to refloat the ship, saying that he was in constant contact with the head of the authority and there were 3 scenarios to deal with the crisis.
“The third scenario was the most difficult because it was related to unloading the ship and removing part of the 55-metre high 18,000 containers.”
The president also asserted that traffic returned to normal in the Suez Canal, adding that the Canal will witness further development to remain able to meet the needs of global trade in various circumstances.
He said that 103 ships crossed the Suez Canal on Monday and Tuesday another 90 ships crossed the canal. Therefore, the 400 ships that have been waiting for the past six days will finish crossing the canal within 3 days.
President Sisi, meanwhile, announced that the state will soon open several ports as part of its development plan, including the port of Bardis and Sokhna, in addition to developing the ports of Alexandria, Abu Qir and Damietta.
