Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected on Monday the construction of tugboats and deep-sea fishing vessels at the Red Sea Shipyard in Safaga. The visit comes under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directive to localize the marine industry.

The tour began with three fiberglass tourist boats under construction, now 70 percent complete. Rabie then reviewed progress on “Azm” tugboats with 90-ton bollard pull. Four have already been delivered, while six more are underway. Two export tugboats are being built for Italy’s NERI company, with talks to add two more.

He also inspected the deep-sea fishing vessel “Rezk 2,” part of a fleet of 12 modern ships designed to upgrade Egypt’s fishing industry. Rabie followed up on international marketing efforts, which include talks with tuna-exporting countries and discussions on joint fishing projects with Australia.

Rabie stressed that the shipyard’s rapid growth reflects direct support from the president. He noted plans for a new factory dedicated to building export tugboats.
